List of U.S. Athletes Suspended for Gambling Policy Violations
Since 2018

It’s no secret that since the U.S. Supreme Court removed the federal ban on sports betting, that calls to gambling helplines and demand for problem gambling treatment have risen exponentially. However, there has been another cooccurring phenomenon - professional athlete (and coach) suspensions for athletic league and organization gambling policy violations.
Despite leagues and organizations instituting and updating policies regarding personnel conduct to protect the integrity of professional sports in the United States, cases of violations persist. In some instances, it’s a matter of choice, but in others there may be underlying mental and behavioral health concerns at play. While professional athletes are elite in their sport, they are still human and struggle with the same mental and behavioral health conditions as the general public. And in many cases, they exhibit higher prevalence rates for certain issues. Research confirms that problematic gambling behavior is among them (view more).
As America’s leading virtual provider or problem gambling treatment, and one of the nation’s top support platforms for elite athletes, Kindbridge is beholden to inform the pubic about many things pertaining to the problem with gambling's relationship to sports. As an appendix to the largest online library of articles on the matter (view here) we have put together a comprehensive list of professional athletes (and coaches) who have been suspended and banned for organizational gambling policy violations since 2018. The list identifies the player/coach, the team they played for at the time of the suspension (when not an individual sport), and the league they are/were a part of. Meanwhile, a map has been included so that it can be cross-referenced with the map of U.S. states with legal sports betting. The intent is to provide reference material from which observers may be able to identify patterns through the timeline since 2018.
