Have you been unable to control your use of online pornography? Have you attempted to take a break multiple times, only to return to the seductive images on the screen of your laptop or phone? You may even justify these unsuccessful attempts to abstain by rationalizing porn as a reward for a long day of work or study, or to help cope of anxiety and stress related to other issues in your life. But in the end, when the tension has been released and the screen has been powered down you’re left feeling ashamed. The shame is not because you’ve watched porn (which can be a healthy sexual experience) but because you simply can’t control the urge to do so, even though it has had a negative impact on aspects of your life. Like with thousands of others who are going through the same thing in Virginia, you may find that you’re not interested in forming emotional and/or sexual connections with “real” people. You may be spending less time enjoying other activities (outdoor recreation, etc.) that were once important to you. You may have let relationships with friends, family, and loved ones slip as you slip further into the embrace of virtual sex. The good news, however, is that you now realize that you need help. You have come online in search of pornography addiction treatment and counseling that is available to you as a resident of Virginia. Kindbridge is here for you. Background of Pornography in Virginia
Pornography is legal in Virginia. However, VA SB 1515 went into effect on July 1, 2023. SB 1515 stipulates that pornographic websites and apps must implement age verification protocols to prevent minors from accessing sexually explicit content. This requires residents to upload proof of age, such as a state issued driver’s license, a federally recognized passport, and presumably the new Real ID that has been mandated for domestic airline travel under the new presidential administration.
In response to what they see as a violation of Free Speech, the world’s largest porn site, PornHob, blocks access to residents on a Virginia based IP address. Although, residents can easily subvert the blockade using a VPN. Meanwhile, it is reported that among the 65 porn sites which promote access to VA residents, only 10 comply with SB 1515.
